Disability Retirement
In addition to Social Security Disability, public service employees with New York City or New York State may also be entitled to disability retirement benefits, depending on their job, their medical condition, the way they became disabled, and the total number of years of service with the City or State. These claims are processed through the New York City Employees' Retirement System (NYCERS) or the New York State and Local Employees' Retirement System (NYSLERS). Each has its own set of procedures for determining whether a claimant is entitled to benefits. Additionally, in many cases your entitlement may turn on whether you are seeking "accidental" disability retirement benefits or "ordinary" disability retirements.
Determining whether you are eligible for these programs takes a lot of specific information. Call the Law Offices of Samuel D. Flatt at (718) 544-2767. I'm here to help you. |
